ByFood: Fuss-free Lemons

Lemon is rich in Vitamin C. Yes, we all know that...

But how many of us would actually buy a lemon frequently unless we have a lemon recipe to cook? Furthermore, there are signs at supermarkets like NTUC  that would tempt us to buy more lemons than we need for instance "1 for $0.40. 5 for $1.80". Of course the latter is a better deal, well to me.

But what happens next after I use up 1 of the 5 lemons for a "Fried Chicken in Lemon Sauce" (FCILS) dish? Maybe make a flask of lemonade with 2 lemons (which I don't really fancy but have to finish drinking up in 2 days) and save the other 2 for later use (and nobody knows when I'll make FCILS again).

Perhaps some of you who are reading this already know what to do with all your lemons. But there are still many others who want a good $ deal yet have no idea at all.

Ok to cut it short, here is a fuss free way. Juice out all the lemons at once and freeze them in ice-cube moulds, do not dilute with water. They should turn out like this...

Lemon Juice Ice Cubes

These lemon ice cubes are very handy. You can just drop these cubes into a glass of water to enjoy some lemonade, use them to make salad dressings, cook them in your favourite sauce, or even pop 1 into your mouth if you dare.

I happened to buy 5 lemons at NTUC two days back, not because I was attracted by the good deal. I needed the lemon scraps to make citrus enzymes and did not want to waste the precious juice. So I froze the juice for 2 days and decided to enjoy a cup of honey lemon today.

Simply stir a teaspoon of honey into lukewarm water then add 2 - 3 lemon ice cubes. There is no need to make it colder or dilute it further by adding water ice cubes. It is fuss free, Do Try It! :]

  1. I just bought 5 lemons from ntuc. Yes, they do so like to clear their perishables in bulk, that is their marketing gimmick. To clear stock, heck care those that have small families.
Anyway, back to lemons. Making lemon water daily. To drink for good health. Had read up on it, it seems to hv lots of health benefits. Alkalizes the body, as most viruses/bacterias thrives in acidic environment. Helps with allergies, i guess its from the Vit C, boosting immune system. And it also helps those that have elevated uric acid levels and joint pains. Half a lemon (abt 1 oz) to 12-16 ounces of water. Not exactly called lemonade.. :P but drinkable..
